What might we accomplish together?
Do you recall the story of the four blindfolded men and the elephant? The first of them holds the trunk and says, “It’s a hose! We’re dealing with a hose!” The second, having grabbed the tail, says, “No, it’s really more like a rope!”
The third, on his knees and hugging one leg, says, “You ninnies! It’s got to be a tree!” And the fourth, reaching up and down and to the side and feeling only the solid body, says, “You’re all wrong! This thing is a wall!”.
Those four well-meaning, blindfolded folks are your attorney, your accountant, your insurance adviser and your investment adviser. And that beautiful, complex and unique elephant is your business. Each of them grasps just a part of the whole – that part which he or she is trained to see – and they expect you to tell them what you need and then smoothly coordinate their joint efforts. But the problem is that you know so little about what each of your advisers can do for you that you don’t even know all the questions you should ask; you certainly don’t know how their work might fit together. You need one key adviser to help you better understand your options so you can make all the best decisions.
For many business owners, that key adviser is their accountant. And some accountants can do this job well. But too often, since accountants have only limited knowledge of what your other advisers can do for you, mistakes can be made and opportunities missed... and all those lost chances can do real damage to your potential future wealth.
That is where I come in. As an attorney and Certified Financial Planner with more than twenty-five years’ experience in advising business owners, I know all the questions that you should be asking and how your other advisers can best answer them. I can come inside the circle with you, help you to better build your business and quantify your personal goals, and develop with you strategies that can help you really make the most of business ownership.
